Malty bitter beer with a hint of a banana. Okay but hard to excited about.

Bottle 50 cl. Clear amber golden with a small off-white head. Sweetish nutty nose. Medium-bodied, sweet roasted malt and a whiff of sweetened coffee. Very subdued bitterness. The roast and the coffee makes me think more of a Brown Ale. 080510

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small white head. Aroma is mild hoppy dry herbal with a dry roasted malt base. Bitter and roasted malt, subdued fruity. Rather dry and bitter flavoured with a slight metallic note. Bitter and roasted finish.

[Bottle from Mum & Dad, shared with Jim - cheers!] A clear, glowing copper colour with a middlin’ foamy off-white head. Moderate carbonation. Smells strongly of autumn fruits, but the fruitiness comes through less strongly on the tongue in what is a very traditional, slightly earthy and fairly bitter English beer. Better than the cask version, but still only OK. c7

[cask at Warwick Arms, Reading] Pours chestnut red with a moderate creamy white head. Very slight carbonation - about the right amount for the beer. A syrupy texture and flavour - like over-ripe apples and caramel - overlays a dirty bitter farmyard hop finish. Not great.

[bottle] Clear, coppery amber colour with a light-beige and short foamy head. Sweet and sourish malty, slightly ascorbic nose with notes of grassy hops. Sourish bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slim malty base with light notes of licorice, plastic and a subtle fruity touch; moderately dry and bitter finish with grassy hops. Not a very exciting Bitter [13.XII.08].

Cask, The Cheshire Cheese, Wallasey. Brown with an off white head. Vague hop in the aroma. Slightly sweet malty flavour. Not much in the finish. A rather drab affair.

Bottle, 4.3%. Citric aroma, perhaps slightly grainy. Dark amber colour. The flavour is quite malty, slightly nutty. Quite grainy with subtle sweet hops.
