Barrel Aged Flanders Red with Redcurrants and Blackcurrants
A Flanders Red style sour ale, brewed with a mixture of light and medium kilned malts to produce a deep redden hue. Primary fermentation was undertaken with a blend of Brettanomyces strains which produce strawberry and blackberry aromatics, in addition to our mixed culture of yeast and bacteria.
This 3-month-old base beer was blended (60/40) with a 2-year-old amber sour beer aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels. The resultant blend was refermented and aged further, on 200g/l whole fresh Redcurrants and Blackcurrants, harvested at Pittormie Fruit Farm in Cupar, 7 miles from the brewery.

Couleur cuivre, léger gusher avec un col blanc retombant très rapidement.
Arôme sur un bouquet fin acidulé qui reste cepenant bien marqué. L'apport de ces deux barriques projette plus un nez rappelant le vin rouge plus que le côté Bourbon/rye whiskey.
Palais est plus fin sur le caractère du Bourbon/rye whiskey qui vient apporter une pointe de chaleur, le tout relevé par un fruité rouge/noir de cassis dont la finalté acide est tout autant marquée et accentue le caractère un peu acétique.

Keg at Riverside Beer Fest 22. Aroma had harsh vinous edge and dark berries. Cleat dark ruby. Thin but foamy off-white head. Heavy sour. Tart berries and a vinous streak. Light-medium bodied. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Enjoyable but OTT for me.

Bottle online from the brewery. Pours dark plum red, with a small beige cap. Aroma: cherry, blueberries, strawberry, redcurrants, oak, funk. Taste: very tart, sharp berries, sour cherry, redcurrants. Very light on the Flandersy balsamic character. Medium body with light carbonation.

Keg @ Coracle. Pours a hazed brown with red hue, off-white head. Red berries and vinegar on the nose. Razor sharp to taste, great fruity profile, nicely sour with oaky moments and some mild vinegar notes. Pretty good.

Appearance- very dark red, with a small beige foamy head. Aroma- lots of raspberry, blueberries, strawberry, slight gueuze quality, woody notes, fruit crumble, hints of brambly dark fruit. Taste is lots of raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, sharp tart fruit, oaky, vanilla, sour sweets, cherry, prickly rhubarb hints. Juicy blackcurrant, barrel ageing in the finish.
