Many thanks to Bob for bringing this from his Harvey’s Pub. Smooth malty beginning. The beer is smooth and round. Very nice and easy to drink. Fresh and malty, round with a subtle malty-nutty bitterness. Smooth and round on the tongue, malty caramel in the aftertaste, round and great with not too much bitterness there.

Cask at Rights of Man, Lewes, East Sussex. A dark brown coloured pour with a medium bubbly off white head on top. Sweet, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes quite sweet, malty, caramel, a little dark fruit. This was rather good and really on top form as it should be, the famous brewery is down the road from this pub. I knocked back 3 pints of it.

GBBF Day 2. Cask. Clear amber - brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Palate is smooth and semi dry, not much carbonation. Very mild tangy malts. Mild tangy toffee. Tangy dried fruits, a little orange peel. Light dry finish. Mercifully absent of the characteristic ’farty yeast’ (copyright Harrisoni) but same old flat Harveys delivery.

Flavour is composed of nutty, earthy. Sulphur, fruit and but. Palate is semi sweet, moderate, good condition. Good characterful beer.

Bottle at Royal Oak, Borough. It pours darkest brown with a decent beige head. The nose is rich malts, malt loaf, soreen, plum, prune, blackcurrant, fruit jam and port wine. The taste is bitter-sweet, rich malty action, dark fruits, plum, prune, jammy berry, earthy roast, red grape, Vimto and port wine. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not quite as good as the cask, but one of Harvey’s best bottled beers for sure.
