What the IPA might be had it been invented in Germany
[Character]
Clean and refreshing IPA with refined bitterness and floral flavor and aroma from traditional German hop varieties.
[Food Pairing]
Spice infused salad, chicken, hard cheese such as pecorino
[Naming]
The world of craft beer is dominated by American hops, especially in the modern IPA. Hops are produced all over the world, however, and vary hugely in character. This series is a celebration of characteristics of 6 countries, and a reimagining of the IPA through the lens of their respective beer cultures.
[Brewer's Voice]
This was a challenging beer to both conceptualize and brew well because it tries to express the German beer tradition through a style that is quite foreign to its roots. Most German beers are known for balance, where the IPA style is known for being more bold and audacious. We used a German Ale strain normally used in producing Kolsch to give a background fullness and slight fruit nuance. This then supports a complex layering of traditional German hops (one from each of the four major growing regions) that creates a refined bitterness and flavors and aromas of floral herbs with hints of citrus. We hope you enjoy this exploration of what the IPA style may have been if it were created in Germany!

Slightly cloudy yellow with a small head. Honestly, it’s a boring beer. Some light citrus fruit, light toasted malt, a bit of lemon peel but mostly it’s dull. It’s neither an IPA nor a golden ale.
Easy going but not mind blowing. Got a certain graininess to it and lightly fruity hoppiness. Not the most exciting for me but nothing wrong with it.

KBC 6 Journey Series: German IPA 6% Nice gold with a thick rocky off-white head of foam. Medium to full bodied with a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Well balanced flavor with malt notes but also mint and other intriguing hop notes(melon rind, grape sweet tarts/bubblegum, etc). Quite a unique brew but it didn’t wow me as much as it did KL. Definitely worth trying though.

Can from the brewery. Lovely noble hop nose: citrus, herbs, orange, lemon, light tropical fruit. Really stunning. Like a pils but with an IPA malt bill and light esters. Flavor is honey malt, biscuits, herbal, minty, citrus hops. Very unique. Full, suffig, really want to take gulps at a time. Full and smooth. Low gas. Best German-hopped IPA I have tried. If there is a fault, the bitterness is a tad high, but no worried. Superb.
