In 1810, the Oktoberfest tradition was born when Munich celebrated the Crown Prince’s wedding with a special beer and 16 day party. Our version of this classic style blends rich malts for a hearty, smooth flavor with notes of caramel creating a brew that’s perfect for the season, or whatever you’re celebrating.

Bought at De Man van Drank, Rotterdam. Nice red amber color, firm frothy head. Fruity, somewhat smoky aroma. Lots of tropical fruit (peach) and pear in the flavor. Some hopbitterness. Nice and clean beer, maybe a bit thin.

Pours light amber with a thin white head. Little carbonation. Aroma of sweet malt. Slightly pumpkin-ale taste to it, definite spice influence. Palate includes sweet malts, spice.

Draft at T.G.I. Friday's, at Dallas-Forth Worth airport, USA. Pours a beautiful reddish deep brown, with limited foam. Aroma is weak malty and caramel. Body is average, with good carbonation. Taste is pretty sweet from the beginning, though this is accompanied, after a while, by decent bitterness. Finish is not really pleasant, medium in length. Overall, a decent beer.

I have sampled a number of octoberfests from various breweries lately. I had been a fan of Sam Adam's version some time ago before burning out on the style. This 12 oz bottle was purchased singly at a local purveyor of liquors. Cooled off in the fridge as cold as I can go, the bottle gets poured into a standard beer mug. It fills with an enticing amber-orange liquid and is topped by healthy off-white head, steady carbonation follows. I take a smell, decently malty, grain and caramel. The taste is as I recall, heavy on the grains, barley part of that I assume, baked bread, a bit of hoppiness, toffee, just more rounded than the competition. A small bitterness completing, not bad. Yes, the best marzen I have had so far.

Copper color with tan head. Aroma of hay and toasted slightly sweet malt. Taste is just a hint of vanilla, sweet caramel and wood with balance of hop bitterness.. Crisp finish, no hoppy aftertaste.
