A German Style brown ale brewed with dark, rich Belgian specialty malts and domestic whole hops. The alt will have a dark copper color and will have a slightly fruity, bittersweet flavor. It is a beer for the more adventurous, for people with an appreciation for a beer with a rich malt character and a balanced hop finish.

Notes from July 2009 Rare Vos tumbler... quite the unstable-looking thing. BB October notch. Baby gusher. Clear, with a deep brown & amber color. Cakey/scummy oatmeal-colored head. Smell is crusty brown bread, just a little peppery yeast, & some faintly herbal hops. I'm a little bored. Clean though. Tastes of simple crackers & brown malt, light yeastiness, & again, some very mild herbals. They even pleasantly linger a bit. Taste is more fulfilling then the initial smell. Feel is drier then expected. Yeast is chalky. Body is lacking. Carbonation is moderately high. Even being less then inspired with this beer, I can see casually consuming a few before really considering to put up an effort to change speeds. :)

Bottle at home, thanks to Leighton for this one. A light hazed amber orange coloured pour with a fine off white head. Aroma is big plastic hockey puck, nutty malts, apple,. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, rounded. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty malts, little dried fruit, raisin, little age and wood in the finish.

Bottle shared in London - sourced from somewhere in the northeast. Pours clear reddish brown with a creamy, white head. The nose has some leafy hops, lightly toasted grains. Light sweet flavour with more lightly toasted grains, just a faint suggestion of tang, some dried berries, low bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. OK finish, more of the same, some leaves and dry, lightly toasted grainy bread, vague citrus notes. So so overall.

Bottle from Hannaford Raymond NH. Aroma is yeasty dough with a little bit of leather. Appearance is a pretty reddish amber with mild haze (from live yeast), nice sparkle and two-finger off-white creamy foam head. Taste is mostly mild malty sweetness over mild bitter with a bit of yeast still present that gives a little unfinished quality to it. Palate is light to medium bodied with thin texture, lively carbonation with a little sting to the tip of the tongue and very mild bitter finish. Overall, this beer is true to its style but doesn’t do so as boldly and richly as the description would suggest. Pretty average.

Pours hazy, woody brown with a thick, light tan head. Aroma is caramel malt. Very malty, caramel with a sort of tree-bark bittering. Mild, tasty.
