Bottle from a trade, cannot quite remember who sent this, but thanks! Pours black with a dark chocolate brown head that dissipates nearly instantly and completely. Aroma has a good amount of chili on the nose that combines nicely with the roasted malts and coffee notes. Hint of backing chocolate. Flavor is a bit muddled with a bit of pepper, coffee, chocolate and roasted malts with the notes fighting with each other. Don’t get chilies on the tongue. Beer is extremely flat, which doesn’t really hinder it as it is a huge imperial stout.

Bottle, tasted blind. Thick, low brown head on black beer. Aroma os whiskey, fruits, chocolate, soy sauce, raisin. Sweet and fruity, with chocolate, cream, wood, berries. Tart edge is very nice. Roasty but rather mild burntness. Very sweet and fruity, and hot. Didn’t guess there were chillis in there!

Pitch black color, quickly disappaiting head. Strong nose if dark chocolate, coffee, cocoa an chillies. Awesome. Very low carbonation, tons of coffee and chcolate nibs in the mouth with stinging chillies. Fairly sweet, but for 15% it drinks really well. You could make a great cake off this. Bloody awesome.

Courtesy of Dak. The cool looking green 0.375L black cork and caged pours out deep dark liquid with mahogany edges and almost no head but impressive glass staining legginess. The aroma offers up molasses, dark roasted malts, some dark caramel, dark roasted coffee and a sense of chili meat. The taste is smooth and yummy with nectar like sweet goodness going from rich molasses, near burnt malts, some rich dark roasted coffee notes and to a pleasingly complimentary note of chili meat. The notes all go wonderfully together and just go on and on and on at times and I don’t want them to ever stop. I also get delicious rich velvety dark chocolate here and there too. Wow! This is insanely good and seems a bit Hunahpu like, well at least one or two batches from the first year it was made are pretty close to this.

375ml bottle, no. 983, trade with Craig last year in Edinburgh. The body is black as pitch and covered by a tiny, tan-coloured head. Coffee grounds to the nose. Taste of coffee and chocolate. Dark bitter fruits towards the finish. Warming alcohol. Full bodied and velvety smooth in the mouth. Very nice (shared with Finn, Tromsø 29.06.2011).

Bottle at home from Beer Ritz, Leeds. Poured black as a ravens wing with a fading tan head. Aroma had loads happening with notes of sweet malts, chocolate aplenty, chili, coffee, vanilla, leather and barrel all mingling in harmony. Luxuriously smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Big complex and rich flavour that made me step back in pure wonder and admiration. Sweet but in no way cloying, the notable elements of the nose were present and shining. The chocolate and barrel notes stood out, but each passing sip revealed something different and tasty. The warming booze hit was in no way overpowering considering the ABV.I felt rather selfish downing the whole bottle by myself as this really deserves to be shared with good company. If the chance arose to try this again in any situation I’d leap at it. A stunner.

375mL bottle, at The Wellington in Birmingham, pours jet black with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma of licorice, molasses, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Flavour is insanely rich and quite sweet, featuring oak, bourbon, molasses, roasted malt, burnt caramel and vanilla. Silky, rich, full-bodied palate, with the ABV extremely well-hidden. Outstanding.

Bottle from Brewdog (as well as on tap a while back at the White Horse). It pours opaque black with a very large caramel-coloured head. The nose is rich-roast coffee, dark chocolate, some chilli, a little soy, wood and alcohol. The taste is strong dark and milk chocolate, rich coffee, liquorice, pepper, cherry, alcohol warmth, smoke and tobacco, leading to a dry finish with chilli spiciness. Great balance between the chocolate and chill! It’s complex and very drinkable for the percentage. One of the best Brewdog beers I have had the pleasure of drinking.

On tap at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London last autumn. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Pleasing roasty, malty aroma. Tastes sweet, heavy, malty, coffee, chocolate, orange, incredibly complex, smooth, boozy, warming and rich. Lovely stuff indeed.
