On tap at the White Horse London for the bredog launch. Very dark black with a thin residual tan head. The liquid was very viscous. Aroma of rich dark chocolate, dry bitter coffee and malts. Taste is is a big coffee and slightly sweet malts. This beer was ’dry hopped’ with one very powerful chillie. Thank goodness they only put one in the whole batch. The chillie does contribute to the beer, but i felt it was very much a secondary or even tertiery role to the big malts and coffee. For a 15% beer there was very little in the way of alchol flavour, this was masked very well be the huge taste.

Brewdog release at the Sloaney Pony. Opaque black beer with a good tan head from the bottle but just a residual one from draft. Nose carries dark malt and a trace of marmite. Incredibly rich coffee and unsweet chocolate. Tangy fruit - particularly cherry bolster via the undertone. There are some faint whisky like flavours and a whisper of vanilla. The chilli - mmm! I’ve bitten in to a Naga chilli and believe me they will blow your head off, but even so - one chilli in a barrel? There is something warming here but it’s quite subtle and I can’t help thinking the warmth is from the otherwise well hidden 15.0% abv. Finishes rich and chocolatey. 4.0 for the bottle, 4.2 for draft. Great beer!

Abstrakt 01 - 25 Vertical @ Brewdog Sheps Bush. Opaque dark brown - black beer, short lived bubbly tan head. Palate is smooth, mildly dry, modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, good dark chocolate, some oxidised caramel fits in just fine. Chilli warms the back of the tongue. Good ripe fruits, some bruised cherry. Smooth finish. Has aged really well. Shows it's age but in a sexy Michelle Pffeifer sort of way. 3.7
