Strong chocolate porter (or stout, according to the brewer himself!), at Nationale Bierhappening in Zottegem. Cobweb-lacing, coarse but dense, egg-white, irregular head over a very dark chocolate brown beer, still more or less translucent (and 'murky') though, so not the blackness you'd expect from an 11% ABV stout. Aroma of indeed creamy milk chocolate, water-diluted coffee with sugar, ripe blue plums, Sachertorte and brownies, pear, cooked white cabbage, cloves, port, banana, brown rum. Sweet, banana ester, some candied fig, residual brown sugariness with a slight sourish touch to it (roasted barley, I presume), medium carbonated, thick and fluffy, bready and brownies-like maltiness, very caramelly but not so much roasted bitter, lingering banana and sweet blackberry notes, leafy hop bitter accent, a tad peppery but this pepperiness has more to do with a lot of long, heating and eventually astringent alcohol. Chocolatey beer indeed, but the basis is not so much a stout as it is a quadrupel; sweet and boozy but interesting and relatively complex so a pleasant surprise, in all.
