This singular amber ale, brewed with a touch of smoked malt whisky, offers the delicate taste of fine Belgian yeast and caramelized apples.
It celebrates the courage and festive spirit of the log drivers of yesteryear.

Rated from old notes. Brewed with whiskey malt, this medium bodied beer has something of a whiskey taste, but not the warmth due to the low ABV. Still, an interesting diversion.

Light brown and cloudy, light carbonation. The malt aroma and taste is sweet more than smoky, not what I expected from whisky malt. Clean finish.

Bottle 341ml @ Hotel room, Weber’s, Ann Arbor, MI
Pours hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, yeast and subtl hint of smoke. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, yeasty and caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Rosamunde, Brooklyn tap: Wow, so I have never seen this beer for sale until now. Now that I finally tried it, I was disappointed. Not only was it not very smoky, but it was also not very good in general. Kind of sweet and herbal. No smoky character. Nothing really appealing about it. Meh. Maybe I would have liked this more had this not been my last beer of the night.

Bottle. Very disappointing for a smoked beer. I can’t say I pick up any smoke at all, in the flavor or aroma. Very much like a simple Belgian ale, with the characteristic Unibroue yeast. Light and well carbonated, lots of bubbles on the palate. Light malt flavor.

Sample at Beverage Source. The beer is a cloudy dark amber color with a medium thick foamy white head that recedes gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, grain and spices. Light to medium body with flavors of herbal yeast, smoked malt and fruit. The finish is peat malt and fruity yeast. Decent overall.

Pours a slightly hazy amber color, with a slightly off-white head that settles slowly. Malty aroma, some notes of caramel and very faint smokey aroma. The taste is malty, some smoked notes in there, with some yeasty taste later on. Not my favourite although still ok.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy earthy amber brown with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has has notes of bread and grain with a slight smokey note underlying. Flavor has a bit more smoke but is mainly bread and grains as well as a bit thin.
