Our legendary red ale originally brewed for a famous Reggae festival that happens each year here in Humboldt County. This mahogany hued ale brings an intense spectrum of spicy aromatic hop character balanced by a full-bodied caramel richness. 2011 Silver Medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival in the American Style Amber/Red Ale category.

12oz tap pour in The Goat Hill Tavern. Costa Mesa, Orange County on 11th May 2015. Red hue to the brown body, off white head that faded fast in the cooled plastic tankard it came in. Semi-sweet caramel maltiness in the nose and taste with a mild bitterness just below the surface. A bit too cold for my palate, but a decent enough beer all the same.

Keg at the Library Alehouse, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Clear chestnut brown with reddish hues topped by a moderate light beige covering. Nose is biscuit malt, caramel, brown sugar, sweet tones, candied fruit peel. Taste comprises biscuit malt, caramel, dark fruit rinds, light spice, brown sugar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so, about as good as it is likely to get for this tedious style!

Bottle from Taniguchi. Nice chewy malt nose, caramel fudge and grassy hops. Pretty amber-brown with a tight, fine head. Nice rich caramel malts, light chocolate fudge, plus good American hops, more grassy and piney than citrus, though. Solid Amber.

7% a reddish brown opaque pour with a beige head & a candy caramel aroma. Medium-bodied, sweet caramel malts with a strong citrusy hop bitterness give it a mildly puckering bitter finish but is overall well balanced and solid. Quite easy to drink.

On tap at Stone 17th anniversary party. Dark amber in color, clear, and with a small light beige head. Rather boring aroma and flavor, some pleasant hoppy notes though, as well as caramel hints and a little hint of lightly roasted malts. Medium body, quite dry. Decent finish. A quite boring one, can’t understand what it is doing in this company. 130816

Bottle for 1 buck from Guntown chugged before the wedding rehearsal in the parking lot. A clear amber color. Smooth with nice caramel and hop bitterness. Quite big for an amber. Good.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Unclear amber color with a medium off-white head. Floral hops aroma with some citric notes and some malt. Flavor starts with some sweetish, slightly caramelly and slightly grainy malt and continues with pretty bold bitterness with grapefruity notes, yet the hoppiness seems not so fresh. Medium-bodied. Decent.
