Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks Stas & Max. Black, tan foam. Chocolate, roast, acetaldehyde, very sweet, licorice, caramel, bitterish finish, full-bodied. Too sweet and too much acetaldehyde.

Barwa ciemna, piana koloru beżowego, drobnopęcherzykowa, trwała i zdobiąca szklankę.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with close to no carbonation and no head. Solid roasty nose, a bit rough, Rich body, ashy harsh roast combined with a mellow sweetness from the lactose. Harsh and sweet in a not so integrated way. 180917

Tap. Aroma: coffee, caramel, chocolate and citrus. Almost the same taste, like a chocolate bar with orange.

At LIBF. Another of these countless new Polish craft beers, in this case an imperial stout flavoured with orange peel, cocoa nibs and coffee. Medium thick, lacing, pale beige head, blackish robe but still largely translucent under closer scrutiny, as a very dark burgundy-hued bronze. Weirdly spiced, unusual aroma of a lot of black coffee indeed, hazelnut paste, Belgian chocolates (I guess this reflects the cocoa), coconut flesh, pastis, melon ’jenever’, wodka, milk chocolate, marmelade - a spiced imperial stout for sure, but in an unusual, ethereal, almost anise-like manner, took me a while to get used to but not unpleasant at all. Residual sweetness in the mouth, bit sticky even, candied cherry, somewhat ’refreshing’ elderberry juice sourishness providing balance, soft carbo, oily mouthfeel. Nutty and toffeeish malt sweetish body with bittering edges, lots of black coffee bitter roastedness towards the end, mouth-filling, with again that weird aniseed- or pastis-like aspect retronasally, maybe related to the orange peel flavouring (I see no other possible sources) turning this beer into another direction than you’d expect from an imperial stout - but in a highly enjoyable, original, tasteful way; lingering sweetness and a peppery, wodka-like alchohol effect stay behind after swallowing. Not very accessible actually, but very original, I liked this a lot.
