The key to a sessionable beer is the way it evolves over time well spent. Here we took an extremely dark malt bill and dulled its edges with the addition of lactose and nitro conditioning, then we wafted black currant notes of Bullion hops through the middle. Nuanced to keep it an interesting part of a gathering while neither dominating nor being inconsequential to banter. Drink Carton Of Milk because it does a session good.

Notes from 12/23/13 Nitro-d growler. Always iffy with that. No in-store consumption what now? Inky black body. Chocolate head. 40 minutes from home, already losing it's grip on the nitro. Smell is charred toast, with a buttery cocoa powder thing going on. Just a twinge of coffee. Peanuty, subtle wafer sweetness, but lingering citrusy bitterness. moderate acidity. Closer to a dry stout then anything. Calcium & saline finish. Carbonation was quietly leaving out the side entrance. Started off at about an average, prickly fizz, & ended at just a trickle above flat, all in about 2 hours. Damn, now I'm searching the fridge for something sweet. Grrr...

Can poured into a tulip glass. Dark reddish brown opaque, with tan head. Chocolate and slight roast aroma. Roasted malt with some coffee bitterness in the taste. On the watery side.

On nitro at Arts and Crafts Amsterdam Ave. Pours black with a creamy nitro head. Chocolate, strong toast, biscuit, little roasty bitterness. Good body. A really nice stout, not super sweet or milky, just nice.

16 ounce can. Pours a dark brown color with a dense, creamy, finger high tan head. Roasted malt nose. Notes of cocoa and coffee. Tastes like roasted malt and fresh brewed light roasted coffee. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Finishes with hints of black currants and toasted black walnuts. Easy drinking, like buttah!

Growler I picked up at the brewery pours a watery black with some cloudy, white head. Nose has milk chocolate, mild toast, some molasses. Flavor follows, malty, molasses, brown sugar, milk chocolate. Finishes thin. Drinkable.
