We all have a beast within.

Think of early human civilizations… tribes gathered around campfires, hair ragged, eyes ablaze. Strange brews slosh in crude wooden cups and run down their beards as they drink deep. Their half-wild dogs roam beside them. Unleash it. Re-live it. BEAST MODE.

BEAST MODE comes in many forms. It’s about the thrill of inspiration, about Mad Science in action, it’s about loving your beast, and channeling the BEAST within. The beer incarnation is an unconditional porter born from the fierce compassion for animals that’s forever intertwined with Beer Culture.

Beast Mode pours chocolate lab with ruby highlights, and the nose is downright beastly — coffee, roast, hops, caramel. The texture is medium bodied with roasted bitterness upfront on the tongue, followed by sweet toffee and malt on the tail end. The beer finishes dry without any lingering bitterness. Lots of bark but it won't bite — just a howler and growler.

Can, pours a brown murky color, thin fizzy head. Aroma is bold citrus with small traces of dark grain and chocolate malt.

The flavor has a lot of dark grain with burnt bread and citrus hops. The body is very thin even in terms of a porter. The finish has a citrus and floral bitterness that lingers for a good duration after the sip. The bitterness is on the harsh side and the thin body doesn’t help with anything. Well, every brewery is entitled to a swing and a miss. This is a swing and a miss, "Strike out, the batter takes a seat"

Location: Draft at Barcade - JC, 2/7/15

Aroma: It has an aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, some dark malts, and pine hops.
Appearance: Dark brown color with a small brown head and fairly coating lace.
Flavor: The flavor is both malty and hoppy, chocolate, roast, earth, and pine.
Palate: The body is medium, soft carbonation, finishes on the drier side.
Overall Impression: I thought this one was pretty good. It's kind of somewhere between a Porter and a Black IPA. Definitely worth trying, but not a standout for me.

12 ounce can from Beer Run. Pours a clear reddish brown with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of spicy, floral hops, caramel, smoke, mild roast, fruity finish, even a little bubblegum. The taste is chocolate, roast, citrus hops. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Solid.

Pours dark brown. Small white head. Smell is sweet, bit chocolatty. Taste is bitter, herbal in a way more than hoppy. Light mouthfeel. Some coffee. Ok

I’m giving a lot of 3.7’s it seems but that is what my heart wants. shared again by my cousin at super bowl party, i had my qualms about drinking this since i clearly support the Patriots. dark brown beer. lovely hoppy nose with chocolate as well. tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, piney hops, earthy, caramel. fine palate. perhaps a mish mash of styles but diggable

Can: Pine needle and charred oak nose. Clear brown, sticky yellow head. Tobacco dominated flavor, charred oak and pecans underneath. Light to medium body soft carbonation. Kind of dances the line between full blown IDA and brown porter, but I think the latter is more appropriate. Good hoppy porter.

Draft at Glens Garden Market. Poured a dark brown color, some ruby notes on the edges. Medium sized tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, some light resin and earthy hops. Flavor was light resin notes, hops. A bit like a black IPA, or more accurately, a pretty well hopped porter.
