This blond triple beer of 8.5° alcohol percentage referments in the bottle and tastes delicious and has a wonderful roundness in the mouth. Bottle @ home. Hazy rusty orange golden color, average sized white head that diminishes quickly. Smell and taste malts, kinda old, sweetish, oxidation. Still drinkable but not very pleasant. Decent to medium body, average decent body.

Clear orange beer, practically no head. Aroma: bit oxidized, sourish touch, spicy notes, some coriander. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit oxidized, orange peel, bitter touch. Aftertaste: more oxidation levels, some banana, fruity, spicy touch, hint of tropical fruits.

Pours clear blonde, orange glow. Ok white head. Smell is fresh malty , some hay-like aspects as well. Taste is bit bitter. Some sweetness trough yeastyness. Kinda reminds me of something , but i can’t quite put my finger on it. Corny, almost like cereal. Ok.

New Boelens beer, bought at Fontana in Sint-Niklaas. Surprised it hasn’t been added yet, especially since it is already present at Untappd... Commissioned tripel, made for a software company in Sint-Niklaas (SDP, hence the name). Clear orange blonde colour, almost amber, with quiet sparkling and turning misty with deposit, under a moussy, creamy, snow white head. Initially quite strong but straightforward aroma of fruity esters and malt, I get impressions of red apple, persimmon, mango, walnuts, biscuit, rosewater, cigarette tobacco, chicken broth, tomato, powder sugar, grapefruit peel, a sharp but subtle sulphuric odour of burning rubber or an old-fashioned burning match refusing to go away and in that sense becoming a bit tiring in the end, and something ’animalistic’ (I’d say the sweet smell of menure on a farm, but that probably sounds a lot worse than it is); the dreaded infections which often plagued Boelens’ beers, are nowhere to be seen, fortunately. I have the impression this brewery is not only rapidly expanding its range, but improving its quality as well. Rounded fruity taste, sweetish, a bit honeyish, unripe peach, some pineapple, some sour redcurrant, fairly strong carbo but not too much, nutty maltiness, smooth and bittersweet, caramel touch, evolving into a relatively satisfying finish of lingering biscuity malts, a leafy and pleasantly spicy hop bitterness, some yeastiness (especially as the bottle progresses) and warming, somewhat whisky-like alcohol, fairly well hidden but still apparent on the tongue even before you get to the end. In all: one of the better Boelens beers I’ve had so far actually, quite a pleasant surprise, but more a ’generic’ Belgian strong ’ambrée’ than a true tripel in the strict sense of the word; respecting the brewer’s intention as is custom here, I did classify it as a tripel, of course. I do wonder if it even matters, though: I have no proof, but this seems like an alias of Klok Tripel... It has the same ABV, the same looks, the same smell and the same taste. The guy who commissions this at Boelens claims that the yeast and hops are different, but I remain to be convinced. Only a side by side tasting could reveal the truth, I suppose...
