Here in Brooklyn we’ve combined European malt and hops, Belgian dark sugar, and raw wildflower honey from a New York family farm to create Brooklyn Local 2. Our special Belgian yeast adds hints of spice to the dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavors. After 100% bottle re-fermentation, this ale reveals a marvelous dry complexity, enjoyable by itself or at the dinner table.

bottle at JK O’Donnells - Pours dark amber with a moderate sized light tan head. The aroma is of malt, dark fruit, and honey. It tastes of sweet malt along with that dark fruit. The honey is also quite noticeable without being too much. Some mild hops come through to provide balance. It’s medium to full bodied and has a lively palate. Really nice brew.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with some light dry fruits. Taste is also a very well balance mix between some candi sugar, some dry fruits such as figs some Belgian malt and light fruity ester. Honey and citrus notes are not as dominating as expected after the reading the beer description. Body is quite full with some creamy notes and good carbonation and no alcohol was apparent. Very well done and way superior to Local 1.

This was a very pleasant surprise. Truth in advertising, the nose presents a big citrus and honey presence. The citrus is slightly lemon rind though. Much the same is in the flavor but with the addition of a light cocoa powder over a mildly sweet banana plus other tropical fruit. Lightly phenolic. Highly carbonated gives it the perfect palate - very few American versions of Belgians seem to get the carbonation right but this one sure did. The only thing really wrong here was a bit too much alcohol in the finish, very warm but it wasn’t enough to be called a flaw, its just that some of the best beers do it better. Dark brown color, nice thick creamy head. All around alot to recommend here.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours with a tan head over a hazy brown body. Aroma of dark fruits, alcohol and a bit of spice. Taste is yeasty with coriander, dark fruits, alcohol and dried raisins. Dryish finish (probably due to the low F.G. left by using honey as a fermentable). Dry mouthfeel, light bubbles.

Pours deep mahogany into a trappist glass. Tan micro head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface leaving spot lacing. Dusty yeast and pit fruit aromas. Full sweet orange, apricot and pear upfront. Lasting booze soaked raisin finish.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours deep amber with bubbly tan head. The aroma is a bit mild with apricots, raisins, bright red cherries, a bit of apple and spice. Pretty nice. The taste begins with a pulse of raisins and prunes and then moves toward mild even spices and some sugar candi sweetness. The flavors seem a bit on the bright side at this time.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is sweet with fruit, malt, and honey. Taste is sweet fruit and malt, yet has a honey and spice hint in the finish that keeps it from being a sugary mess.

Pours a fizzy dark burgundy, with a foamy head that disappears almost immediately - aroma of honey, plum, tart orange peel, a touch of spice - nice and full in the mouth - starts out dry and yeasty, with a warming spiciness close on its heals - some dark fruit character settles in through the middle (plum mostly) - gets a little scotch ale-ish bubblegum-like flavor late, which works surprisingly well - the honey shows up late, but it only adds a gentle sweetness that lingers through the finish - many of this beer’s characteristics remind me of some of Unibroue’s better annual specialty ales (and note just because of the yeastiness) - quite nice.
