Tap @ Cirkus, Stavanger. Practically pitch black body without any head. Strong aroma of dark malt, wood, warming alcohol and hint of chocolate. Flavor is super smooth, medium roasted dark malt, sweet and bitter dark chocolate, wood, balanced bitterness and warming alcohol in a boozy but not unpleasant way. Full bodied and long lasting aftertaste. Really nice and amazingly smooth for this high ABV. Tend to think that most beers above 12% is unnecessary but this is just amazing.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is licorice, roast, booze, wood. Thin body, dark chocolate, roast, licorice, boozy finish, good.

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Black with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, herbal and aquavit. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Sweet and rather bitter finish with lots of warming alcohol. Boozy. I’m not a big fan of aquavit. Strangely thin compared to the Rum and the Bourbon versions. I blame the Aquavit. 240218

Draught @ Mikkeller bar, Aarhus. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet malty, caramel, chocolate, little coffee, light spice, Aquavit . Flavor is sweet, light bitter, rich malty, caramel, chocolate, herbal, fruit, licorice, light spicy, Aquavit, boozy. (On tap @ Warpigs, Copenhagen, Dec 17/17) Black pour, loose bubbly off white ring. Aroma is fairly barrel dominated with note of aquavit spices, juniper, some cardamom buns, dark caramel, wood, rather herbal overall. Flavour is built around a dark caramel malt core with soft chocolate but really influenced by the barrel, there is lots of spicing, caraway, juniper berries, herbs, peppery heat, slight wood. Finish is semi dry, alcoholic, lots of lingering barrel. Medium bodied, slightly syrupy, rather low carbonation. Really big aquavit notes here, perhaps slightly too out of balance for my taste. Good but not as well integrated as the barrel for Smoldering Holes.

Small bubbly shortlasting head, deep black pour. Aroma is slightly dry sour-ish boozy, oak, gin, bark, dark malts, sour dark fruits, orange liquor, grass, dark sugar, spices. Taste is sweet boozy, dark sugar, oak, gin, bark, dark malts, dark sour fruits, orange liquor, grass, spices. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry sour-ish boozy mouthfeel. Nice.
