This sturdy beer is strong both in taste and alcohol content (9%), boasting undeniably appealing flavours. The people of Montignies-sur-Roc, which lies to the south of Mons in the province of Hainaut, are known locally as Montagnards. It seemed perfectly natural then for a beer brewed in the village to be named La Montagnarde. Enlivened by a very sharp bouquet of fruitiness and spiciness, it has a stark taste, somewhere between intense bitterness and dreamy caramel. Absolutely sugar-free, this pure malt beer plays with a variety of flavours that soften the bitterness. There is a pepperiness at the back of the mouth and a tingling on the tongue. Its qualities continue to develop in the mouth, each element of its flavour having the chance to express itself individually. It is very active in the glass too, giving it a generous, long-lasting head. Its long finish highlights the ever-present bitterness, with a little less of the caramel. The finale evokes a kind of sugar-free gingerbread.

In 2019 the new 1979 label was introduced to commemorate the 40th jubilee of the brewery.

Bottle from BIAB. Gusher... Even with a careful pour there instill floaters.... It is lightly hazy orangey amber with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, oily, candied orange, peach, toasty grain, brown bread, sponge cake, spice and melon. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, candied orange, tangerine, nutty, toasty, brown bread, boozy kick, toothy, rivita, cereal and warming spice with a nutty finish. Medium to full body, foamy carbonation and oily mouth feel. Sits a bit heavy perhaps, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Golden color with some orange tones, a bit hazy. Frothy head. Flowery aroma with peach. Good lacing. Sweet apricot flavor with honey and orange. Some fairly well hidden alcohol. A bit too sweet and not very complex, but a nice fruity strong beer.

Not one of the best in style in my opinion, The body is a little thin for being so big in abv, the belgian yeast candy flavour isn’t so prominent. online saveaur bier

Gushing bottle. Hazy orange ale with a tall airy white head. Nose: rich fruity esters delivering notes of apricot, blueberry, black currant. Light spiciness, Belgian hops. Distant funk. Full body. Taste: lightly sweet. Highly fruity. Apricot, berries, apricot stone, Belgian hops. Good, but not as spectacular as other strong ales of them

Bottle from Carrefour in Ghent. Pours clear amber with a quickly thinning, off-white head. Aroma of brioche, almond, candi sugar, candied plum & orange, cake, red apple, green tea, cinnamon. Taste is medium malty sweet, caramel & brioche in balance with candied orange; light herbal bitter middle brings green tea with sugar, some spicy cinnamon & cookie dough, faintly nutty (almond) too, vague sourish fruity character. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering caramel (in a refined manner), sweet brioche, yeast, candied fruit, and some subtle warming liqueur alcohol (amaretto almost). Medium body, slick/creamy texture, fizzy to lively carbonation. Subtle strong Amber Ale but with character, very nice.
