Draught at Portland location, 3/6/16.
Dark ebony body nonetheless shows moderate clarity when held to the light. Tan head atop shows moderate retention.
Tons of earthy, crusty, bitter roast in the nose with bitter chocolate, dusty cocoa and "oily" strong coffee accents. No alcohol, no hops, no flaws.
Crunchy coffee, oily roasted barley and lots of baker’s chocolate all seem like they’d be too much in unison, but the bitterness is held in check by a sweet vanilla-cream-like maltiness and brisk carbonation. As well, it’s very well-attenuated and dries out nicely on the end, with a bit of wateriness that is very welcome and aids drinkability. Nice stuff. Could use some more fruitiness to really take it to the next level. No alcohol or flaws.
