A strong ale, brewed with guarana, Californian poppy, kola nut and Scottish heather honey. A conspiracy of trans-continental ingredients infused with some devastatingly BrewDog imaginative thinking.

Bottled. A red-amber beer with a bubbly off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of spices - nutmeg, heather, and more, on a honey back ground. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, honey, and spices - nutmeg, heather, and other spices I can’t pick out. The finish is dry spicy.

Bottle. Rusty bronze beer with a soon disappearing head. The aroma is weakly fruity and hopped, whereas the flavour is very well roasted and hopped with a malty vinous finish. Overall a very nice beer.

Upon first popping the cap a modest rush of fruitiness greets the nose. It pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma carries some red berries, sweet currants, sweet sugary malts and a dash of caramel and vanilla. The taste begins smooth and running up toward creamy ushering in modest notes of sweet raspberry, sweet dark currants and ripe cherries. Behind the fruitiness is a layer of slick sweet malts with a touch of caramel and vanilla just creating a bit of a cream soda sensation. To the finish a brief thin layer of tannin like tartness is noticed as well as floral and earthy hops. Interesting but a bit muddled.

I have no clue why this used to be called speed ball. Appearance was orange with a large white head and tremendous lacing. Aroma was very subtle, but had notes of licorice and anise, with a hint of black pepper. Taste was similar to apple juice and sand, very subtle almost to the point of being bland. Little finish. Medium body. Too light for my taste.

Sampled on tap at Churchkey DC. Another weird one from those Scots. Pours a translucent orange with a white head that faded fast. Aroma mostly spices, some faint sweetness, some grass. Flavor was more faint sweetness, a touch boozy, some weird tropical fruits and spice. Finish was a little medicinal and boozy. Weird and a bit of a miss.

Bottled (as "Speedball" at Pikkulintu, batch #101, BB 12/10/09 whatever it means)
Slightly hazy amber color, small white head, Sweet grassy, honeyish and caramelly nose, a bit harsh, like in some bulk lagers. Caramelly, grassy hoppy, slighlty alcoholic. Like drinking aged and harsh East European malt liquer. Guarana? Where?

Bottle batch 099. Pours with a off-white head. Clear copper body. Aroma is grassy, and herbal, pepper and a sweet butteriness. Coffee, herbal, nutty, spicy. Not that great. Medium carb. Bitter, not repeatable.

330 ml bottle. Orange body with a thin off-white head. Aroma is herbal, tea, malt and a hint of citric fruit. Flavor is sweetish malt and herbs. Refreshing and good, but there is small traces of chemicals in the finish.

Bottle. Clear coppery, no head. Beautiful complex aroma including honey and flowers. Medium body and carbonation. Foretaste with strong pleasant honey and floral notes gives way to quite intense bitterness that is rather harsh and not entirely pleasant. An unusual beer but the harsh finish doesn’t work for me.

As brew dog speed ball was afraid this would taste like an energy drink, but it acutally tastes like a very good ipa. Good work, brewdog. cloudy ornage, small white head. nice floral hoppy aroma, clean and fresh. flavor is fresh hoppy, bitter base, yeasty faint sweet, very nice controlled flavor.
