Bottled - inky dark pour, smallish head. Mostly dark chocolate and some espresso, a lot of roasted malts. Some smoked oak.

Draft at RnH West. Darn brown, light brown head. Lots of lace. Heavy smoked aroma, meat, light peat, roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate. Similar flavor. Smoke is overpowering at first, but as it mellows this beer comes it great. Smooth, clean, mildly bitter. Long finish of smoke. Nice beer, probably best in smaller sizes.

Dark brown, no head. The aroma is lightly tarry. Light smoke, again fairly tarry, has a big sweet taste. Good sticky barbeque sauce taste.

Bottle from Super Deli Mart, Seattle
Dark brown color, near black, brown color. It’s a roasty and smooth Imperial Porter, a lot of dark chocolate, and very limited sweetness; the smoke is delicate, not the dominant character; it has some light sourness from the dark malts, and very light salt and liquorice.
Nice.

650ml bottle at Josh. Aroma is smoky and chocolate. Taste is oily, burnt malt, chocolate, bready. Very good.

Rich, deep dark brown body that shows some lighter colours near the bottom, around 75% opaque, all with a rich deep brown head about two centimetres tall. Aroma of smoke (liquid smoke), meat, mushrooms, earth, soy sauce and a lot of roasted malt and light caramel noticeable as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive smoke flavour with some mushroom, meat and Worcestershire sauce flavours as well, but a rather mild malt presence and no real sweetness to speak of at all. Aftertaste is roughly one-dimensional with the smoke and earthy flavours showing strong, but not much else - and especially not much body - this is pretty thin. Overall, a fairly substandard beer, at least in terms of what you’d expect from Midnight Sun, but showing some smoke elements and that’s about it - no real complexity at all, especially at a high price point. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 05-December-2015 for US$11,99 sampled at home in Washington on 13-March-2015, and i’m glad I didn’t fly back home with this one from Anchorage or cellared it any length of time, as this wouldn’t have been worth it.

650 ml received in a trade with SHIG. Oily black color with fast dying tan head. Aroma is smoke without question. Ash, burnt oak and light traces of chocolate. Thankfully the flavor is mild in smoke, shows a good amount of chocolate in a fuller, hefty body. The texture is rather slick and oily. Good stout character with hidden alcohol. Better than I was guessing, not awful.

Poured from bottle thanks Airforcehops via SHIG. Pours dark cola with a thin brown head. Aromas of smoke peat and malt. Taste is similar to aroma with hint of dark chocolate and lingering bitterness.
