Oak-aged wild ale with lemon and vanilla

We look to passages to guide us, expecting to find truths, a change to our long-standing beliefs. Stories to keep us up at night, but also tuck us into bed. What causes such power in words?

Faith. The belief in a higher power. Not to explain love, but to embrace it. There's a cackling of those who will try and deceive, but the chosen will always see the truth. The goal is to see the light and run towards it, never minding the simple thoughts of mortals, but to understand the words of our Divine.
(from label)

The latest sour beer from The Lost Abbey's oak forest of barrels, Libri Divini was aged in Foeders before being spiked with Lemon and Vanilla. Huge aromas of lemon lead to hints of funk on the nose. The first sip begins with a spritz of lemon tartness with a bit of essential lemon oil, leading to a slight biscuity feel, finishing with a smooth refreshing vanilla character.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting XVI (Last Call) on 10/09/2025. Slightly cloudy yellow-gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Oaky and lemony aroma with malt and yeast in the background. Medium body with flavors of tart lemon, oaky vanilla, mildly funky yeast and doughy malt. The finish is tart and oaky with a lemony aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly citrus forward with lots of lemon and lighter vanilla notes. Light oak notes and grain with hints of stone fruit. Pours a slightly hazy, yellow-gold with a medium sized, medium thick, white head that recedes to a small film that lingers. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat acidic and slightly sharp with a light sweetness and light grain notes. Medium low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderate lemon notes with lighter vanilla and stone fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid beer but this doesn't do it for me. I'm not a huge fan of citrus in AWAs as it ups the acidity a bit too much, but the vanilla helps even it out.

12.7 oz. Beer #1, second day of Extreme Beer Fest in Cyberspace. Aroma has notes of lemon, oak and vanilla. Pours pale golden orange with a small quickly collapsing bone white head. Highly sour (8/10) with lemon meringue pie flavors; really nice pie crust character. A little salty? Delicious.
