While dropping off TWCP Derivation to Paul at The Wine & Cheese Place last year, I brought up the idea of blending a barleywine for them, and what I came up with was a blend of the Double Barrel Aged M.J.K. barrels that were then subtly touched with Mexican vanilla beans. I felt that this would fit perfectly into the Continuance line and allow us to start gently experimenting with adding adjuncts to Barleywines. The resulting beer is definitely worthy of the TWCP nomenclature and since it is something that we blended - and not exclusively from TWCP barrels.
These barrels were all Double Barrel versions of all three of the M.J.K. recipes. They rested between 21 and 31 months in hand selected Willett 4 year and 8 year old Bourbon barrels before being blended and subtly enhanced with a light addition of Mexican vanilla beans. The amount of vanilla used was a very small fraction when compared to what we use in beers like O.W.K., D11, D13 and others, as we didn't want to hide the beauty of the base beer, but we wanted to add a new layer, a new complexity to an already exciting beer.

Bottle shared by ClarkVV--thanks Clark! Opaque dark brown with nice viscosity, no head or lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla. Taste is strong bourbon first half, second half vanilla, dark fruit, late caramel. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Excellent strength and balance.

750 ml bottle. Thank you Clarkvv. Aroma. Bourbon, raisins, prunes, chocolate. Flavor has a solid amount of vanilla with soft bourbon and traces of roasted grain. Thankfully it is dry. Pretty sweet, yet really good!

750mL bottle drunk 8/9/25.
Clear dark mahogany. Little/no head.
Smells like light vanilla acidity and rich Willett spice. Maybe a touch of alcohol, though not hot. Cherry from the liquor with really rich, soft toffee and honey from the MJK. Rich, tempting, inviting.
Oh fuck! That's insane. MJK for real with rich, rich, long toffee and vanilla with spicy Willett notes. Rich and malty but not too syrupy or boozey. Cherry and plum skin with tobacco and chocolate. It's sweet, but so is MJK. But the acidity to balance is absolutely there.

Lovely bourbon, fudge, vanilla, milk chocolate, oak. Soft and hidden alcohol, just nicely warming in the finish. Beautiful.
