A dark magic celebration of all things Rye, Incantations (2023) conjures rich layers of spice, sweetness, and barrel-aged complexity. Brewed with a heavy hand of Rye malt and dark candy syrup, this Imperial Stout offers a chewy mouthfeel and a signature peppery snap that lingers like a whispered spell.

After aging in Rye Whiskey barrels, the beer emerges with beautifully layered notes of chocolate-covered raisins, white pepper, mellow oak, toffee, and molten chocolate lava cake. The specialty malts weave a deep, roasted warmth throughout, while the barrel amplifies the rye's spicy backbone with a touch of heat and sophistication.

Incantations 2023 is a ritual of grain, fire, and time—a brew that honors the bold spirit of rye while embracing the dark and the decadent. Drink deeply… the spell has been cast.

500ml bottle, 2023 vintage. Chocolate aroma with notes of candy sugar, dark fruit, toffee, peppery spice, oak, vanilla and whiskey. Pours deep brown with a thin mocha brown head that has little retention and a ring of lacing. Starts with rich chocolate, candy sugar, peppery spice and oak flavors as well as having a rich, full body and decadently smooth mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with dark fruit, toffee, vanilla and whiskey flavors. Fantastically rich and flavorful. Excellent brew!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some light lacing notes. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some vanilla and whiskey notes. Taste is also a mix of black chocolate notes with some vanilla and whiskey notes with a light woody finish. Body is about average with good carbonation with some alcohol notes that are discernible. Enjoyable BA stout but lacking a fuller body.

Can to snifter, the appearance was a dark brown color with a sly film of a little white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Sliding lace.
The aroma had some light bourbon to sweet wood, sweet rye, light milk chocolate, touch of vanilla, and a little bit of earthiness at the end.
The flavor was moderately sweet with the earthiness sliding in to accompany a nice balance. Aftertaste was semi-dry with an unyielding pinch of spice coming from the rye which wasn’t in the initial taste. Finish was nice and discovered the smooth and sweet side of the rye penetrating the sweet wood and bourbon spike.
The palate was medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt as projected.
Overall, pretty damn good imperial stout. Hoping RAR will come here to Vermont to brew more with BBC.
