Native Refermentation of Grapes from French Creek Vineyard
Prosser, Washington
This 2020 harvest beer was made through a native fermentation of Chardonnay grapes from French Creek Vineyard on the slopes of the Yakima River.
Grapes from massal selections of the original 1981 plantings along with Musque 809 clone were destemmed and crushed and kept in contact with most of the skins for some time before being pressed and then blended with well aged and dry hopped spelt beer and young beer brewed with spelt and einkorn.
This beer was refermented to condition in the bottle with raw Washington Star Thistle and Knapweed honey.

Pours unclear blonde. Small white head. Scent is fairly expressive, floral, dried herbs, not very chardonnay typical. Taste is tart, dry, oak, bit buttery by the chardonnay. Oak. Medium light bodied, medium carbo. Nice balance, very decent beer !

Poured from 750mL bottle. Hazy golden blonde with small white head. Chardonnay, must, bugs, oak. Pinot Noir version is preferred, but this is still decent.

Quite pale yellow, with a faint haze. No head. Some chardonnay on this, light bretty and bonus bugs. Soft body, with light bugginess. It's winey, lots of grape, some alcohol, and a mellow sweetness. In the finish, it's earthy, slightly tannic. Good wine hybrid.

750ml (thx, Drew P. for picking it up and a cross-border delivery!) @ Sales Force. Appearance: almost clear blonde (in a non-shaked view) with no head. Aroma: nice fruity character, funky, some barrel. Quite sophisticated. Taste: quite carbonated, moderately acidic, lots of grape must and funk. Overall: quite intense, a bit too acidic for me, but pretty nice.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out Chardonnay barrels, wild bugs, and musty grape. Flavour is complex, with lots of grape must, wild yeast, oak, and light citrus zest. Oaky, buggy, and grape musty. The booze is quite well-concealed. Lots of vinous and buggy notes here in great cohesion. Excellent.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a cloudy gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is grape must, oak, floral. Slick body, grape must, oak, light dry finish, enjoyed this.
