Barrelaged Barleywine || 9,5% Barreleye is a classic barleywine characterised by a rich malty sweetness and an expressive hoppiness. We barrel-aged it for about 6 months in a 2nd use Auchentoshan barrel, to give it its deep oaked character and some lingering hints of the whiskey.

(Draught at Foeders, Amsterdam, 30 Aug 2019) Dark amber colour with creamy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, candy sugar, dried fruit and oak wood. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, treacle-toffee and a mild bitterness in a sweetish finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced for its strength. Quite nice

Pours a deep amber/copper colour and a beige head with an orange hue and pretty good retention. Aroma's are sweet, caramel, wood, (red) fruit. Retronasal it sweetish, fruity, woody, bitterish. Flavour is moderate sweet and (above) moderate bitter. Alcohol is warming, feels quite strong. Medium bodied. Finishes quite bitter, chalky

Meesterlijk etiket. Zoet, beetje boozy, kersenschilletjes, hout en wat vanille.

Bottle. Dark amber color. Apricot, a hint of caramel and cinnamon in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with licorice, cinnamon and caramel. Oak, shyish whisky flavor. Earthy hops. Not perfect, but fairly complex.

Classic and traditional style barleywine for sure: pretty sweet, caramelly. Barrel ageing gave it some wood and some (caramelly and sweet..) whisky. Needs something to make a splash, and some bitterness. Tasty but so very boring.

Hazy amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, some tangy caramel. Fruity bourbon. Some spice. A kind of wet wood bourbon that is mildly bitter. Ripe fruits on the warming finish. Flavoursome for sure but doesn’t quite sing.

Bottle. Color: Clear copper, beige head. Aroma: Dark dried fruit, caramel, Auchentoshan Whiskey. Taste: Dark dried fruit, some caramel, licorice and clearly present, maybe even a bit overwhelming Auchentoshan Whiskey barrel ageing. Hints of nuts, almond, plum, grain, sugar and citrus fruit. Notes of wood. Dry-ish mouthfeel. Moderate to medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, going towards medium at finish. Medium to over medium body, below average carbonation. Pretty complex and pretty nice, although not one of my top favorites of barrel aged Barleywines.
