This vibrant, golden-coloured bitter is a winner in so many ways, with an initial bitterness followed by a surprising sweetness, culminating in a long, dry finish.

Cask (backlog). Goldeny otange colour with a small white head. Aroma is zesty, citrusy, bready and also has some nice sweet maltiness to it. Flavour is zesty, caramelly, floral and toffeeish with some mild nectary sweetness as well.

Cask at the Old Gaolhouse (JDW), Winchester. Pale amber with a scummy cream head; sweet aroma with a touch of honey; soft and bready in the mouth, slightly sweet to start, but being drier with a light bitterness. Another very average Olympic beer - no gold medal here.

Cask @ The Elihu Yale, Wrexham. Golden ale with a light hopped character despite barely any aroma to this effect.

Goodmans Fields ’Spoons. Light hazy on this gold beer, good white head. Light semi dry palate. The curse of Golden Ales strikes - a bit of sulphur. Mild orange citrus. Semi dry finish.
