Dark amber with a small creamy head. There’s a sweetened grain in the nose with a hint of chocolate but veering towards a generally malty taste.

Cask at Brunswick, Derby. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head. There’s malts and honey in the aroma. In the mouth it fluctuates between sweetness and bitterness, but is constantly watery. Traditional hops to the fore in the flavour along with hints of alcoholic strength, berry fruits and caramel. Finish leans more towards bitterness. It’s reasonable.

Handpull cask at the Old Horse, Leicester. Dark copper with a creamy beige head. Malty caramel notes in the aroma with a metallic character. Sweet taste, big malt base, lightly fruited caramel. Bitterness in the finish. Soft carbonation. A decent ESB.

On cask at Mr Grundy’s Derby - A ruby coloured beer with a decent white head that laces throughout. The aroma has good fruits with blackcurrants, cranberries and raspberries (not sure really, there is something else there) seeming to stand out. The taste is fruits and malts with more berries. Good body and very tasty. Hero beer of the day.
