Chelmsford Winter Fest. Clear and very dark brown beer. No head but has nice moderate carbonation. Quite a sharp orange cherry fruitiness on top of mild dark malt. Nicely joined up, decent, tasty and a bit of a palate cleanser.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of tdtm82. Pours a clear and warm reddish with a tiny beige head. Lots of dark dried fruits in the nose with a little phenols. Medium body, again dark fruits, low carbonation, lots of phenols. Hardly any bitterness. Hardly a Barley Wine. 180311

Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival 05-01-10 Pours conker brown with a light beige head. Touch of tangy fruit on the nose, like sour sharp summmer berries. This is also quite tangy in the mouth, with the aforementioned berries showing again there is a bit of fluffy marshmellow and vanilla to temper the fruit tang, Its fine but maybe not the beer that I wanted at that time. [Cask at Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen] A black beer with a small chocolate brown head but not aroma. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and roasted notes. It has a somewhat bitter dry malty finish and a good palate.

[Cask conditioned, hand pumped]
Dark color. Wonderful aroma, powerful; roasted barley, hop, fruity.
Similar appreciation for the taste, with loads of roasted malts, a pretty heavy hopping and an evident fruitness (cassis and berries), all perfectly married together, turning into a boldly bitter final, with enough caramel. Wonderful and original, rare.
Compared to Henry London Porter, it has a weaker body (only in the alcohol content), less hop character, but a far sharper fruitness.
Great beer!
