Porter by this brewery in West-Flanders, thanks tderoeck! Medium thick, slightly creamy and quickly opening, pale greyish-beige head, clear dark chestnut brown robe with ruddy-coppery glow. Aroma of toasted chestnut, brown bread crust, old raisins, walnut, clove, bayleaf, dry caramel. Clean onset, very streamlined, sweetish and clean with more malt than ester fruitiness, softish in carbonation; slick, slender caramelly malt core, side note of dried red fruit or raisin, biscuity in is core. Ends with toasty bittering accents and some leafy hops as well as mild herbal touches (clove, bayleaf), all bittering in a gentle way, while this sleek caramelly sweetishness remains. Straightforward, light-bodied and uncomplicated, but very clean, focused and balanced English style brown porter not hindered by any obvious ‘Belgianness’ – something I did not think Stokhove was capable of, to be frank. Have a point for that.

21/VII/24 - 33cl bottle as a gift, shared @ Bouvier’s place, BB: XI/2024, lot: 006-21 (2024-563) Thanks to Katie for the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, huge fluffy aery irregular beige head, pretty stable, a bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, grains, soft roast, mocha, coffee, some banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: a bit sourish, weird enough, a soft roast, a little fruity, red currants, a bit of chlorine, gentle bitterness. Aftertaste: more sourish, soft roast, fruity, sweet touch, coffee, a little bitter.

10 April 2022. At 14de Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke & Pieter!

Hazy black, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of liquorice, date, caramel, clove, chocolate. Taste has sweet prune & raisin, spicy liquorice, soft toasty maltiness. Herbal hoppy finish, quite spicy with dried fruits. Medium body, slick-watery texture, average carbonation. The 'Belgian love' as they mention it is way too apparent here in its estery and phenolic character, undermining the Porter profile. For me it's back to the drawing board with this one.
