In honour of our favourite Star Baker and the man who wasn't afraid to pour OOPLA into one of his creations during the most recent season of Great British Bake Off, we have brewed JURGEN, a 12% imperial stout brewed with a rich malt base of roasted, chocolate and crystal malts.
We then aged this hefty beer on the best cacao nibs we could get our hands on.
Imagine yourself sitting in a cosy café furnished with neat white oak tables, with the aromas of fresh-brewed espresso, with a plate full of dark chocolate brownies and salted chocolate pretzels in front of you.
It's like that, but distilled in liquid form.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours opaque brown to black with a decent tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, salty liquorice, I definitely understand the pretzel description, umami, charred oak and spice. The taste is dry, rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet character, umami, toasty, charred oak, loads of dark cacao, dark chocolate, savoury, salty pretzel, liquorice, rocky road, nutty, praline and just a touch of that 12% alcohol is present. Finish is bitter - sweet dark chocolate. Fulsome body (bit not too thick) and light to moderate carbonation. Really nice old school imperial stout vibe. Great bitter - sweet balance.

Can split at Watford Tasting, thanks to Fergus, 11/03/22. Black with a tan cap that dissipates edgewards. Nose is booze forward, dark malts, toffee, bitter chocolate. Taste comprises roast malts, liquorice, charr, spice, chocolate, toasted brown sugars, molasses, booze. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a notable spike of alcohol. Not bad but lacks depth of flavour for a 12% number.

Can shared in Watford - cheers to Dan. Pours black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Medium sweet flavour, sturdy roast, well toasted whole grain bread, cocoa, earth, burnt sugars. Medium to full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Warming finish, more roast, baking cocoa. Solid, old-school impy.

440ml can. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, liquorice, dark malts. Taste is very rich, dark chocolate, liquorice, roast malts, a little warming booze. Full bodied. Although technically a pastry stout it isn't that sweet. Pretty much a standard impy stout with some extra chocolate flavour - so a good one then.
