440ml can. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of strawberry puree, chocolate, vanilla, dark malts. Taste is the same, strawberry puree, chocolate, vanilla, dark malts, some booze, it's sweet but nowhere near as much as I expected from an Amundsen stout. Better in terms of balance but expected more intense flavours from an imperial strength Amundsen stout.

Black with a large but short lived fizzy light brown head. Nice aroma of dark berries with some vanilla and chocolate sense. Sweet with a warm dark berries and some vanilla/cheese cake sense.

Can. Opaque dark brown beer, tiny pale tan head. Mellow dark malts, slightly on the thin side. A light smooth and slightly creamy chocolate syrup that is clear but lacking a little weight. Bright clear ripe strawberry, slightly candyish. Mellow vanilla underpins both. Smooth soft finish. Neopolitan beer? Mission accomplished. A great beer? No - no pass here. A few breweries have tried this approach in the past and I can think of at least a couple of them have done a better job. It's pleasant and pretty easy drinking but lacks sufficient punch in both the chocolate and vanilla departments. This was an opportunity to deliver a big sumptuous adult Neopolitan Ice Cream of a beer and Amundsen was the right brewery to deliver it. What we got feels like the other end of the spectrum, something (alcohol content aside) you could give to the kids. A missed opportunity.
