Single... and loving it. Our Single Hop Imperial IPAs showcase the most rare and interesting hop varieties, something all too apparent with HBC-291. It’s so new, it doesn’t even have a name. And this juicy little number proves that a hop without a name smells and tastes just as sweet.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Single Hop HBC-291 on 18 May 2018 at 16:09 - Score: 7

355ml bottle. Slightly milky, orangey, deep golden colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Unspecific hoppy aroma, hints of wet cardboard, aniseed, intermixed with sweet-ish pale malty flavours resulting in a touch of houndreds and thousands, candyfloss. Taste is mildly bitter hoppy, minimally floral-spicy, pale malty basis, a touch of aniseed and paper; full malty body, soft palate, gentle carbonation.

Hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Light malt base, a trace of caramel. Hops are pithy and mildly spicy and somewhat bitter. Mild aniseed. Touch of sweet floral pine. Light dry finish. Mmmm - much like the Duvel Triple Hop, I feel I am no wiser about HBC 291. A little disappointing.

Bottle: Hazy, persimmon-amber with a small off-white head. Slightly bready, pine aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, resin, grapefruit peel. Interesting hop profile.....not overly bitter, but strong, in a rich and earthy way. Very nice.

Bottle from Ship & Mitre Liverpool. Herby aroma hoppy. Clear amber lasting cream head. quite a harsh hop. Some sweetness from the abv and a little burn on the finish. Not the worlds most smooth iipa. Bit harsh bit hot. Yep kinda ok. Bit of boiled sweet.

Bottle. Grass, pine, grapefruit peel, and toffee malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate off-white head. Sweet orange toffee malt, and moderately bitter pine/grapefruit peel flavor. Okay body. Nice hops.

0.355 l bottle from ’Slijterij ’t Fust’ (Hoorn), best before December 2016. Clear, golden amber with a medium large, foamy, stable, white head. Faint, sweetish, fruity aroma of mango, orange and some honey. Slightly bitter, fruity-resiny taste of honey, ginger, pineapple, grapefruit and mango, followed by a medium long, rather bitter, slightly resiny and very dry finish. Medium to full body, slightly creamy to oily mouthfeel, average carbonation. Quite nice, taste is really interesting, but the aroma is very faint. Body is excellent, the dry and bitter finish is maybe a bit too harsh.

Dark blond colour. Aroma is quite fresh and herbal. Flavour has some citrus, especially lime. Fairly muted and dull taste overall. This new hop was used in the 2016 Duvel where it was much more zesty and tangy.

33cl bottle. Light amber, clear, with a very thin white head. The smells is floral and light, with notes of caramel and citrus hops. Very smooth mouthfeel for an IPA, and due to the hops used, it feels a bit like a barley wine, with notes of caramel, citrus and herbal hops and spices.
