Bottle at home. The beer has a hazy brown-orange color with a small, off-white colored head. The aroma is special with touches of dark berries, camphor, cough syrup, solvent, Belgian yeast, anise, leather and some alcohol. The berries are more prominent in the taste, and experienced more acidic. In addition, I pick up sweet grapes, candy and blackcurrant juice. Mouth feel is smooth, and the beer has a light bitterness. An interesting beer for the evening where the currants are evident throughout the beer, and experienced as a mix between sweet and sour berries.

Small glass from the guest tap menu at Schouskjelleren. Unclear dark red body. Almost naked at the surface. Sweet and tart aromas of berries. Display of rather fresh and spicy flavours of blackcurrant and lemony hops. Slightly vinous impression. Dry fruit bitterness to the ending supported by underlying alcohol. Well bodied. Nice and strong thirst quencher (Oslo 22.04.2014).

On tap at Beer14. Hazy reddish colour with a slightly pinkish head. Fruity aroma with mild yeasty and funky notes. Sour berries and slightly strange flavours. Hints of alcohol too. Medium sweet with a certain acidity. Quite nice, but a bit strange.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Cloudy deep red colour, minimal off-white head. Aroma of blackcurrants and mild spices. Flavour of blackcurrants, sourish-sweet, but not sugary. Slightly tart finish, moderate hops.

Bottle. It’s a murky reddish dark golden-brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick off-white head. The aroma has lots of blackcurrant, which I normally don’t think much of, but here there’s enough room left for the base beer to play on. Generic fruityness, a faint spiced and yeasty touch, some citrus and a barely detectable touch of malts and white sugar. The flavor has a suitable bitterness, as well as some peppery and yeasty notes, fruityness and of course quite a lot of blackcurrant. Full body and a little warming touch, nice carbonation level. It finishes more or less like it starts, although with the bitterness more evident. Overall, I’m quite pleased, even though it’s a blackcurrant beer. 140322
