Bottle from the Meerts box, Hopduvel. Vintage 2020-2021. Clear amber, thin, off-white head. Aroma of elderberry juice, red apple, rosehip, overripe nectarine, wet straw, sourdough, ayran. Taste has sour elderberry, nectarine & unripe red apple in a sourdough malt body, surrounded by herbal berry skin, tea leaves, funky straw & some lemon acid. Tart, lightly tannic elderberry skin finish with ongoing though soft lambic funk. Medium body, moussy texture, average carbonation. Pleasantly fruity and refreshing.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2021 vintage bottle. Aroma is somewhat fruity with nice elderberry notes. Lighter notes of stone fruit and hints of lemon. Light earthy, herbal funk with hints of oak. Light grain and alcohol notes. Pours a hazy, copper-red color with a medium sized, moderately thick, frothy, slightly tan head that recedes quickly to the edges before eventually disappearing. Flavor is somewhat sweet with a light acidity and light grain notes. Low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderate elderberry notes with lighter stone fruit notes. Hints of lemon. Light herbal,.woody funkiness. Hints of oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, another solid meerts. This one too feels fruitier than not compared to the set as a whole but it might be right in the middle. Not too acidic, a bit sweet and the lambic comes through nicely.

The nose shows moderately intense notes of brett and light steel tank.

The palate is well carbonated and light to medium bodied. Moderately tart with lightly intense flavors of plum, blueberries, and light brett. More plum on the finish.
