On firkin at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Deep brown body, thin cream head. Light, delicate, creamy beer with caramel, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla notes. Airy and sweet. Pleasant but unexpectedly thin and fleeting.

Growler courtesy thecheeseman. Hey it smells like creme brulee! Touches of vanilla and caramel swirl around here. Flavor provides a fun contrast as the coffee is the first thing apparent, a nice roasty coffee flavor, followed by a pleasing sweet caramel flavor. Finish is semi-dry that approaches being almost too thin, a common complaint of mine regarding coffee stouts. Dark brown color, thin layer of head.

On draft (nitrogen) at brewery. Pours black with spotty creamy brown head. Big bubbles mixed with tiny creamy ones. Lots of lacing left clinging to the glass. Full truck load of coffee, sweet molasses, caramel and vanilla extract aroma. Rich multi faceted malt flavor. There’s roasted malts, a touch of black patent, chocolate, caramel, some coffee and hints of vanilla here and there. This beer is full flavored leaving a rich roasted malt taste behind. Yet another great beer from Kuhnhenn.

Huge thanks go out to the person that brought this to the HW Open House - probably the most unique "stout" I’ve had since New Glarus Cherry Stout - the aroma is all creme brulee and chocolate - it smells like a dessert at a fine restaurant - the flavor, however, is nothing like that - it is actually quite tart, almost acidic - it takes some getting used to, but once you embrace the dichotomy it becomes a rather enjoyable experience - creamy vanilla and cocoa sit way in the back while the sour, drier qualities tickly your tongue - in short, me likie.

Bottle, black with espresso-like head; unfortunately cannot put a word on the dominant smell but coffee comes in as the second one; sourness is the dominant flavour followed by coffee and then by some bitterness. Overall, found that the beer was somewhat off, not balanced.

Deep dark stout with no head. Torrefied coffee with vanilla notes in aroma. In mouth, just burned coffee, with no hops, no sweetness. Rather thin in mouth. Mondiale 2005.

2004 draught at MI summer beer fest. Pours a dark beige/hazelnut brown with some darker black waves in it. Small light brown head and plenty of rich oily coffee aroma. Aroma gets in your face, like a cold cup of coffee poured from the end of the pot. Very roasty, oily and nutty. Flavor is much the same. It tastes like an iced latte with a couple shots of espresso and a hint of vanilla syrup. The flavor is wonderful, but the body is very loose and gets a tad watery on the finish. There is some sweetness towards the finish, but it tastes lightly syrupy (but not cloying). Strange beer here, but it is a great drink for breakfast. Body is medium, low carbonation, slightly watery.
2005 bottle Wow, don’t remember the aroma being this intense. Extreme cappucino/mocha notes invade the nose. Head is well-retained and the body is heavily sedimented (unfiltered). The body could use a good deal more maltiness, and there are some dry, almost cardboardy notes, that get in the way of enjoying this as much as I would like to. Brown sugar, honey and coffee beans round out the finish. Medium body could be a bit fuller.
