Can online from Cork & Cask Edinburgh. Pours black with a tan cap. Aroma: roasted malts, chocolate. The taste follows, rich, deep, with nice roasty bitterness . Medium body with fine carbonation. Tidy. Not quite Kernel standard imo, needs a bigger hop profile.

Robust porter by this craft brewery in Dundee (Scotland), from tap at Himmeriget, the legendary pub in Copenhagen. Thickly moussy, membrane-lacing, yellowish beige head, black robe with thin burgundy edges. Aroma of cold black coffee, bitter black chocolate, wet leather, toasted walnuts, burnt brown bread, dried fig, blood, hard caramel. Subdued sweetish note in the onset, raisins and dried blackberries, fizzy carbonation, slick and oily, relatively full body; caramelly, burnt-walnutty, very toasty maltiness with a roasted, coffee-like bitter tail. Accents of bayleaf, leather, black peppercorn and very vague liquorish are added in the end, while a leafy hoppiness further accentuates a long, drying, satisfying, closing bitterness. Very solid, old school dry stout rather than robust porter – but who cares, I love this kind of beers so have a decent score.

Black beer, thick tan head. Hoppy aroma with a little zest. Flavour has toasty malt, some light hop, a little grassiness and some earthiness to the finish. This has a good body to it and is really well balanced. Very decent.

Can from Hop Shop Aberdeen. Black body with a tan head that holds well. Good lacing. Aroma of espresso, Twiglets and smoky bacon crisps. Flavour of roasted malt and chocolate. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. A superbly made beer of Kernel standard. Not as hoppy as I expected but it’s still an excellent beer.

Can at home, during a BBQ, another lost rating due to the app. Pours black, a little earthy for me.
