Very dark brown with quick fading head. Aroma has obvious bourbon but also subtle fruity notes, dried fruits especially. Flavour has layers of sweetness and also a kind of red wine barrel astringency. Aftertaste does deliver on some roasted malt notes just about retaining its status as a stout.

37,5cl Fles van De Laat. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag. Licht rokerig, hint van turf, licht zuur, gebrande mout, hout, hint van drop, vineus, boozy, aards, zoethout, bitterzoete finish met een zurig randje. Medium tot volle body. Best lekker, maar verre van een schoolvoorbeeld van goede vatrijping. En vrij prijzig.

Couleur noire, col huileux doré au verre, col fin café au lait - moka.
Arôme est fortement centré sur les malts - grillé, chocolaté, effet avoine, pointe de tourbe, fine note de vanille - fruits noirs.

Palais est épais bien sur les malts - je ne suis pas certain que ces assemblages aient été nécessaires - le base reste fort centrée sur les malts - chocolat noire/brun amer, grillé, caramel, roast, note un peu toasté avec un léger rétro-nasal de fruits noirs. les diverses barriques, dont certaines ayant un profil bien tourbé, n'apportent pas trop en terme de complexité - à cet égard, je note peu l'apport de vanille. Le tout deveint un méli-mélo sans la profonduer des différents coupages comme le ferait FireStone.
