Obsidian Peanut Butter Stout is a spin on Obsidian that was inspired by the peanut butter whiskey that has been so popular in the last few years
Deschutes brewed it with real peanut butter, and milk sugar to give it the creamy Jiff flavor we all know and love. But far beyond just adding the Dessert stout element, they also blended in a whiskey barrel-aged stout to add complexity, strength, vanilla tannings, and spiciness. Peanut butter and whiskey are pretty much classic Americana products at this point, so what better delivery mechanism then a traditional American Stout. The final product packs much more of a wallop than the original Obsidian.

* Disclaimer 1 -Gonna have to write this all out due to me not remembering much of my original "Obsidian Stout" review from back when I was stationed in Alaska.
This was consumed on 01/04/2025.
Bottle to snifter.
Reviewed from notes.
Appearance: black in color with a thin cap of eggshell white foamy head which dissipated inward to leave some light concave lace
Aroma: sweet woody/barrel, whiskey tones, vanilla, milk chocolate and sweet wafers
Flavor: leads with the woody/barrel and vanilla & milk chocolate sweetness then a slight peanut butter sweetness; finishes with the barrel tones and milk chocolate
Texture: medium bodied, great sipper; some smoothness but also some noted barrel edge sort of dryness
Overall: glad I didn't throw in my "Obsidian Stout" review from years ago as this beer most likely is something totally different and also I have to make note - the peanut butter is extremely weak in this. Though, I'd still have this again
*Disclaimer 2 - I do wonder if I needed to have this fresher

Bottled 3/22 - well out of date. Very dark reddish brown with a cm of light tan head. 3+ Sweet mocha and roasty aroma with peanuts in their shells, subtle vanilla-led whiskey. Just medium bodied. Bittersweet with a nice balance of sweetness, roast, peanuts, whiskey and bitterness. Pretty good.

Pour is a black with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet molasses and alcohol. Flavor is whiskey with a heavy chocolate syrup with accompanying sweetness. Finish is a little alcohol and roasted malt. I did not get any peanut butter but this was a bargain bin pick up and the bottle on date was 3/31/22. Fine Impy stout even without the peanut butter.

12 oz bottle dated 03/31/22. Pours black with a tan head. Chocolatey peanut aroma with a bit of coffee roastiness. Flavor brings in the whiskey barrel, with syrupy cocoa and some roasty peanut. Not bad at all.

From a 355ml bottle on 3/11/2022 (shared with Butz). Pours a deep deep brown with a small head. Has a strong chocolate aroma with massive wafts of booze. Tastes of chocolate coffee and light peanut butter, with a big boozy, warming, quite vinous bitter back end. Oily mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. A nice boozy big sipper, but could use a touch more peanut butter.
