German Chocolate Cake Barrel Aged Stout
This special blend of two Stouts has aged for over 20 months in whiskey barrels. One of the barrels is a 17 year "Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Very Fine Rare" barrel and the other a Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye Whiskey Barrel from Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection. The beer itself is conditioned on a carefully curated blend of coconut, Fijian Rakiraki cacao nibs, Texas Hill Country pecans, and Papua New Guinea vanilla beans.

Pours black, scent is full, chocolate, coconut, quite intense and enjoyable indeed. Taste is full, roasty, coconut, sweet, candy. Almost maple like, chocolate, impressive stuff once again. Radiant seems to be a brewery to be on the lookout for !

Blended and flavoured stout from California aged on rye and bourbon barrels; sample at BCBF. Some loose, yellow-beige bubbles around the edge, otherwise no head worth speaking of, deep dark chocolate brown robe with mahogany edges, approaching black but not quite. Aroma of old wood, walnuts, very old nougat, bourbon, bitter black chocolate, hard caramel, candied dates, vanilla (from oak), almond. Sweet onset, candied dates and ripe blackberries, hint of ripe pear perhaps, softish carb with very full, oily mouthfeel; deep toffeeish and hazelnutty malts with ‘fondant’-chocolatey core, still sweet with a layer of brown-honeyish sugars on top, yet quickly countered by drying woody tannins and peppery hops, before a strong, heating bourbon and rye booziness appears, engulfing the malt sweetness without penetrating and thus destroying it – so kept well in check, in spite of its strength. Quite impressive and intense, could perhaps further improve in the bottle with a few more years on it.

Clear dark brown to black beer, no head. Aroma: sweet impression, lots and lots of caramel, dark burned caramel, good roast, a bit oxidized, maple syrup, toasted pecan nuts, some molasses. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet and sugary start, molasses, caramel, more caramel, maple syrup, lots of sweet chocolate, lots of alcohol as well, lovely beer! Aftertaste: more and more chocolate, a bit sweet, soft acidity, all dark chocolate, hint of coconut, chocolate milk, creamy, sugary notes, very intense flavour profile, lovely beer!
