Fles gedeeld door Roelzie. Het is een helder koperkleurig bier met een medium schuim. Het heeft een aroma van kaneel en vanille. De smaak is vol moutig, zacht kaneel achtig en zoetig.

I obtained from Finest Belgian late in the fall last year, this 33 cl bottle. The label calls it a Barely Wine. But that does not matter, in fairness, my ability to speak Belgian is severely limited. And I do appreciate barley wines significantly, so there is that. My lightly used Straffe Hendrik chalice glass gets the serving duties this evening, I lift the cap off and pour. The view is a blondish, light brown liquid with a little cover of silver-tan foam. The scent of the beer filled the air quickly and that was nice and still is. Ripe dark fruit, bread and fresh cut hay. I promptly take a sip. This beer is good. Actually I think the taste is like a blend of barley wine and a dark ale. Raisins, black plums, baked bread, chocolate, a bit of caramel and a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Enjoyable, I plan to linger over this one.

21/XI/23 - 33cl bottle @ HoReCa Expo 2023 (Gent), BB: n/a (2023-1097) Thanks to Erwin, Peter a.o. for sharing today’s beer!
Clear blond orange beer, small creamy white head, irregular, little adhesive. Aroma: yeasty, some banana, sweet impression, fruity, more banana. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sweet and sugary start, alcohol, malty, bubble gum, overripe banana, some cloves, definitely not a Barley Wine, more a Belgian style ale. Aftertaste: sweet and sugary, alcohol, malty, sugary, ok but not great, hoppy bitterness, alcohol in the finish.

11 December 2022. Christmas Beer Evening @ home with the lovely Anke!
A: hazy amber, thin, off-white head.
A: candied plum, fig, speculoos, vanilla, liqueur.
T: sweet plum, fig, apple, cookie malts and spices.
F: peppery hops, spices, dried fruit, faint vanilla & warming brandy-like alcohol.
P: full body, oily texture, soft carbonation.
Lacks the balancing hoppiness of a modern Barley Wine; nevertheless an enjoyable sipper by De Meester.
