Handpull cask at the West End Brewery as part of their Oakham Tap takeover. Reddish brown and very translucent with a thick little beige head. Gentle aroma of chocolate, sarsaparilla and oak notes. Tastes a bit odd, with slightly souring notes obscuring the sweeter oaky flavours. Balances out toward the finish is with added herbal notes. I want to like this more than I do.

Cask at the St Albans beer festival 2022. A clear chestnut copper coloured pour with a lasting loose khaki head. Aroma is semi sweet, nice fresh hop, grass, green liquorice, green berries, nutty malts, floral notes. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty, layered malts, grassy pine, sap, hint of brown sugars,. Quite unusual. Palate is semi sweet, good cask condition. Lovely.

Cask at Babington Arms, Derby. Pours a dark burgundy with a small cream head and good lacing. There’s a fruity aroma to this one with touches of plums and mango. In the mouth it is initially quite sharp with dark fruits involved. However, after a while traditional hops show through with some hints of sweetness and some underlying caramel. Overall it has a slightly sweet creamy texture with fudge and smoky highlights Finish has just a little citrus and it’s associated hoirrble stickiness. Despite that this is really rather nice.
