MAL trip: day 7/12 - Chicken & Beer, Petaling Jaya near KL. A 300ml. glass, draught, served one or two degrees too chilled IMHO. Aroma: very unfortunate: caramel meets old socks. Appearance: semi-opaque copper with minimal lacing. Palate: light-bodied and slick, softish carbonation; lingering malty finish. Taste: lightly bitter, not especially malty, some caramel, butter. Very sessionable and, according to the staff at Chicken & Beer, their most popular style.

Tap at Taproom. Lightly hazy dried fruit and grainy, cookieish aroma, floral, grapes. Soft blueberey candy, floral and citric (Cedevita orange) taste, mild cookie maltiness, not much bitterness. Tasty stuff!

A hazed amber ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light grassy resinous hops, light mineral notes, light treacle, pleasant. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light grassy British hops, light mineral notes, light treacle, pleasant. On tap at Momokaka.

An ESB brewed in Malaysia. These are truly strange days in which we’re living. It’s solid, malty upfront, caramel. Nice texture and body. Decent!

330ml draft at Tap Room KL. Poured a clear copper colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is caramel malt. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a smooth, herbal, light floral, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. A very good example of the style here in Malaysia. Could perhaps be served a little warmer though as the flavours only really came through when the beer had stood for a while.
