David 8.5 Strong Blond

Bottle at home. A bit cloudy yellow color, medium sized white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, straw, hayish, distant citrusy hoppy notes, malty and hoppy bitter. Decent to medium body and carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle 33 cl. Yellow-gold, hazy, good white head. Aroma: wheat, sweetish, slightly sour, spicy, alcoholic, a little nectar. Strong taste, sweetish, bitterness, dough, spicy, candy, a little dried apple, warms, strangely.

Clear orange beer, small creamy white head, a little stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, apples, sweet impression, almonds, pears, a little oxidized. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet malty start, a bit oxidized, alcohol, some almonds, a little bitter. Aftertaste: pretty malty, a little bitter, oxidized, apples, decent enough but not very good.

Appearance: cloudy gold with a large off-white frothy head of nice retention. Aroma and taste: apples and pears, floral, fruity and funky yeast, straw, grassy hop. Medium dry. Light to medium ending bitterness. Hoppy aftertaste. Mouth feel: medium body, average to lively carbonation. Summary: good.

33cl bottle. A clear golden beer with a white head. Aroma of strong mid sweet and fruity pale malt, yeast, hints of apricot. Taste of ripe stone fruits, apricot, strong pale malt, wheat and yeast. Moderate bitterness.

Flesje gedronken met familie tijdens verjaardag. Goud-geel licht troebel bier met matig schuim. Aroma van mandarijn en hop. De smaak is zoet, hoppig en fruitig. Nasmaak is een beetje bitter.

Fles gedeeld door Inoven, geprobeerd met HilligvG en BartvG. Het is een troebel goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een hoppige wat gistachtige geur. De smaak is vol, kruidig, bitter en hoppig.

New beer in the Tripel K series, all brewed with clover, for an organic shop in Hoeselt (Limburg) called Biosenza. They have four different beers now so it is handy to have them gathered under the Biosenza label I suppose, but of course none of them is brewed by the actual shop and since beer production is not this shop's core business, I do not think it deserves a brewery status on this website... Anyway, this David is executed at Wilde Brouwers in Merelbeke near Ghent; my rating concerns a bottle bought at an organic shop in the Kortrijksesteenweg in Ghent. Thick, dense, foamy, pillowy, egg-white head, plaster-like lacing over a misty yellow straw blonde beer with visible sparkling. Aroma initially dominated by carbon dioxide but once this fades, revealing impressions of halfripe banana, raw potato, green pear, grass, plaster, young 'graanjenever', cooked parsnip, clove, dried parsley and plastic. Fruity onset but nowhere really sweet, hinting at green banana, unripe pear and raw cucumber, strongly and minerally carbonated with a rounded body; cereally and white-bready maltiness adorned with phenolic spicy notes (clove) but quickly overruled by a long, earthy, grassy hop bitterness. When the bitterness fades, an almost 'juicy' green apple fruitiness remains, alongside bready yeastiness and a subdued glow of 'jenever'-like alcohol - subdued enough that it is just to say that for this type of beer, the alcohol remains well hidden and does not bother at any point. Technically quite well done (though I would never have recognized Wilde Brouwers' house style here): a dryish, hop bitter 'edelbier' and certainly not the worst in this substyle of Belgian strong ales I had. With a tripel already present in the range, one could ask what the purpose of this new addition is, but this is up to Biosenza, of course...

Hazy blond colour, white foam. Sweet, some fruity notes, light bitter, good strong blond.
