Always a special day when I get to drink a new Struise dark ale. This 33 cl bottle came from a shop in Belgium early this year as best as I can recall. Bottle is cooled and I have my Chimay glass in front of me. Dark chestnut brown pour with quickly departing skim of light tan foam, significant carbonation too. It smells of dark fruit and something from the vine. The taste is good, maybe outstanding. This is easily the best Belgian ale that was wine barrel aged I've had. Dates, some woodiness, a vinous effect that does not overwhelm the beer, malt, maybe a bit of roast and dark bread. Sweet, dense, chewy and nice. I'll linger over this one.

330 mL bottle Dec 3, 2019, drunk 5/19/23. Clear, dark brown. Purple hues. Small beige head. Nose is a shit ton red wine, holy crap. Soooo much wine. Dark malts, raisins, prunes, heavy red wine. No alcohol. Soft, malty, somehow not dominant wine in flavor. Juicy port and wine but sharing space with prune, raisin, red grape and caramel. Not boozey, very malty. Seems like this could age for another 10 years. Intense.

18 December 2022. Bottle from Beers@Moviefun. Vintage 2019; bottled: 6/04/2022.

Hazy dark brown-blackish, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of sweet red wine, tawny port, raisin, ripe blue grape, wood, almond, fruit cake, fondant. Taste has sweet raisin & ripe grape next to sourish brambleberry wrapped in a dark-chocolatey, bit almondy malt body with fine woody aspects and a touch of liquorice. Herbal hoppy finish, retaining a firm dark-fruity profile, some woody tannins and warming port-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Lacks some body; otherwise a refined dark-fruity Ale.

Tap at 't Brugs Beertje, Brugge, Belgium. A dark ruby/brown coloured pour with a very thin off white/beige head on top. This was the 2019 version so 3 years old. Rich, boozy, bourbon, berry fruit, port/vinous taste, aroma much the same. Quite a serious beer this from De Struise.
