Bottle from Havnens Vin & Tobakhus. Pours opaque black with small brown head. Aroma is intense roasted malt, soy sauce, liquorice, cocoa, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is medium to very sweet, light to medium bitter, and light salty. Body is creamy with faint carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with intense notes of roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, liquorice, soy sauce and cream. Very nice

Porter flavoured with vanilla and intended as a winter warmer - maybe I should have waited for the colder days next week as the past few days including tonight felt more like early spring, but I could not resist. Longneck bottle from DeApotheek. Medium thick, greyish mocha-beige, crackling, creamy, dense head breaking in the middle and eventually reducing to a waferthing ring, over a very dark chocolate brown robe, as good as black, but still showing copper red highlights near the bottom of the glass. Aroma of coffee grounds and instant coffee, indeed vanilla hovering over it but already losing momentum, caramel liqueur, fresh bayleaf, black chocolate, bitter cocoa, cashew nuts, marmite, molasses, dried blueberries, hints of black pepper, veal 'fond', dried prunes, chewing tobacco, vague 'drop' and Pumpernickel bread. Sweetish onset of candied fig, plum, blackberry and fig, with vague sourish edge and a dash of veal stock-like umami, softly carbonated with smooth oily mouthfeel, full and rounded. Layers of toffee, pecan nut, nougat and cappuccino ensue, drizzled with cocoa and black chocolate, bittersweet but more sweet than bitter with a clear but not too dominant lactose effect, while the vanilla slowly seeps in retronasally. Elements of bayleaf, cinnamon and vague salmiak lurk in the background while coffeeish roasty bitterness becomes more apparent, pairing up with leafy hop bitter elements to establish a more drying finish than expected, even though cocoa and caramel sweetness clearly linger. The vanilla, never becoming as intrusive as it might have been, does hold strong and gently fades away with the rest of the flavours. Moreish for sure - not overly complex, not overly strong and not overly contrived, but effective in a 'postmodern', basic way, pastry without all the associations of some known local dessert; it delivers what it promises and does so in a focused, streamlined, delicious way. I do not think this genius Estonian brewery has ever disappointed me.

Vanilla, chocolate & berry aroma.
Medium bodied, smooth thinning out a bit to a cloying back.
Toffee, liquorice, vanilla, chocolate & berry tastes with a tangy finish.
Luscious.

Black beer, thin tan head. Malty vanilla aroma. Flsvour has loads of malt again, heaps of vanilla, milk chocolate, a nice body and some boozy warmth. Delicious.

330ml bottle bought from Beer Merchants and drunk at home. Dark brown, opaque with almost no head. Getting a lot of vanilla here, in the aroma, some coffee some caramel. Sweet taste, even more big vanilla, roasted malt, a tinge of chocolate fudge. Light bitterness in the finish. Soupy body, almost no carbonation. Very good if a bit heavy for what it is.

From a 330ml bottle on 22/5/2024. Pours a deep brown with virtually no head. The nose features chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. The taste follows suit, adding a hint of vanilla and soy, with a mild roasty bitterness at the back. The mouthfeel is lightly syrupy, the carbonation soft. Very nice.
