ZENNEGASH is a collab with our friends -and excellent brewers- of Allagash Brewing Company from Portland, Maine in the USA. Little side note: the first ever collab we did was with them in 2011: the Very Spéciale Belge.
We didn’t have to look far to find a name for the beer. We simply combined the two rivers we both owe our names to: the Allagash river, and our good old Zenne!
This time we brewed a wheat beer (the specialty of Allagash!), dry hopped with both American and European hops. We made two versions: one bottled version, refermented with Brett-yeast, and one clean version in kegs.

The bottled version:
A blond beer, beautifully veiled thanks to the large amount of wheat used. In the nose we primarily smell papaya, mixed with the scent of white fruit tree blossoms. Because of the refermentation with Brett yeast, we also get the typical aromas of cider and leather. When we drink the beer, we get a very slight acidity due to the wheat and a lovely creamy texture. Once again we taste papaya, but also peach and hawthorn. In the finish there’s yellow stone fruit and Galia melon. The alcohol percentage is at 5,7%.

The kegged version:
At sight, she looks exactly the same as the bottled version. But in the nose, we get an explosion of acacia flowers and especially of fruit: a mix of tropical fruits, yellow stone fruit, quince compote and melon. We have the same freshness of the wheat and the same slight acidity with a creamy texture. We can already smell summer!

Snallygaster: hazy yellow with white head. weird and off. Not quite a witbier. I cannot say this is very good.

Stemware @Torst. Pale gold, half hazy, fluffy head. Dusty, delicate florals & mild but constant acid. Chalk, dusty wheat, very airy & fluffy. Grassy, astringent dry hop finish that is a touch pedestrian. Saison-lite. Fleeting but good.

Lovely collab. Mild Wit notes with some esters and wheat malts. Lemon-zesty. Touch of brett but very subtle. Fizzy. I really like.

Pours hazed blonde. Small to medium white head. Scent is malty, mild hoparoma, fairly crisp. Taste is light, very fresh, malty, fruity. Pale ale like, wheat is fairly hidden. tad fruity, lovely summer-preparation beer. Nice bitter (assertivly rather than overpowering) finish.

Draft @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm.
