Bottle from Tbone, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Apple syrup and tar in the aroma. Sweet alcoholic flavor. Thin. Lots of laurel and even a hint of smoke and licorice. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. A most peculiar beer.

Tap at Villi Wäinö, Helsinki. Colour is reddish black with tiny brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, sweetness and roasted malts. Pretty basic.

Draught at Olutkellari Helsinki, I think it was the 4. Poured a red-black body witha creamy white head. Grainy nose, some caramel. The taste is nicely grainy, sometimes moving to rice crispies. There’s some caramel too. Overall it’s ok but far from complex and just not all that interesting.

Biggish beige head. Barely translucent deep dark red body. Earthy roasty caramel aroma with notes of cinnamon and wild berries as well as faint hop traces. Dry roasty earthy cinnamon taste with a background sweetness. Hoppy licorice notes. Dry roasty earthy wild berry aftertaste with chocolatey notes. Nice, flavourful, and harmonic. (0.33l bottle, Alko, Helsinki.)

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours dark brown with tan head. The aroma is mild with notes of dark malts, chocolate malts, faint roastiness, light dark fruity esters and some earthiness. The taste is roasty dark and moving toward toastiness. I get a bit of chocolate mixing with raisins and other dark fruity ester notes. Smooth and drinkable.

Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. Pours dark brown. Aroma is malty, very sweet, roasty with a touch of caramel. Mouthfeel has note of cereal/grain, maybe oat? A pleasant surprise out of Suomi land.

(3/1/08) Sample from a bottle (I think FatPhil brought this one - thanks!) at the RB table at Zythos Bier Festival 2008 in Sint Niklaas. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, a bit of toastiness and a bit of dark fruits. Finishes a bit drier with hints of yeast and earth. Medium-bodied and a good mouthfeel.

ZBF2008@RB table: From a clear bottle. Pours black/brown with a lacing white head. Roasted malt, light chocolate and light coffee aroma. Flavour is slight oxidiced roasted malt, mild chocolate and coffee. Mild finish of the same.

ZBF 2008 Röstmalziger Geruch, alkoholisch, etwas süß. Getreidiger und würziger Antrunk, das auf der Getreidigkeit basierende Aroma ist mittelintensiv. Das Getreide wird stärker, etwas hopfig, erdig, erneut röstig. In Ordnung. Test vom 4.3.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,8,9,10,11,9 - 9,10
