Large bottle from De Molen shop 09. Hazy orange brown colour, with a lasting thin beige head. Roasted hop and sweetish malt aroma. A little sweet in the mouth maybe, but I thought hugely drinkable and completely belied the 9.5% ABV. I’ve had beers of lower ABV that tasted so much more of alcohol. I know some people who think Rogue beers are rough and badly brewed and too sweet and too obvious, but you know what? I like that about them. I want a big hoppy alcoholic American Strong and I love this brewer for giving me what I want. Yes, it has too much sweetness on the swallow, and the hop is more burnt than bitter, but hell. I love it. Bit thin on the malts if I’m being brutally honest. It’s a bit like a big stadium rock band, you know what you are going to get, you know something smaller and more bijou would be a better gig, but you still come away with a big grin and singing embarrassing songs.

Draught at Rogue Ales and Public House, Portland. Pretty amber color. Fruity aroma with orange and caramel. Big alcohol, big hops. Candied cherry sweetness. Slightly too alcoholic and harsh; only vaguely reminiscent of its far superior little brother.

750 ml bottle. Dark copper color with a thick long lasting white head. Faint aroma of molasses and cinnamon. Very malty taste, strong brown sugar component. Fairly well balanced with hops, but hops are not dominant. Bittersweet finish.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy copper amber with a small frothy off white head that diminishes quickly with decent lacing along the glass. The aroma is a spicy caramel with cascade hops. Medium mouthfeel with a caramel malt taste with brown sugar and a spicy finish. Hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink. A very good American strong ale from Rogue.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large frothy head with great retention and good lacing. Aroma is more geared toward sweet malt then hops as I was expecting. Taste is very reminiscent of an American barleywine with loads of cookie dough sweet malt with a bitter hoppy finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done with an interesting balance between sweet malt and bitter hops.

Bottle. The mix of hops and dry fruits reminds me of a american barley wine/DIPA. Lacks in complexity.
