Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: black in color with a film of a little white foamy head once dissipated there wasn't any lace
Aroma: sweet and tart red raspberries up front with a nice balance of cocoa powder, subtle coffee tones with a roasty and sweet side further underneath
Flavor: sweet and roasty at first then a subtle tart arises from the raspberries; lean finish of raspberries and cocoa
Texture: medium bodied, good as a sipper, some smoothness but also some tart abrasiveness and a touch of dryness
Overall: an enjoyable experience of a nice dessert beer!

Notes from November 2011 Had no idea that this was retired. Thought I'd just drink a stout. /shrug Pulled this one out of hibernation last week. Purchased from New Beer Distro about a year & a half ago. Poured into a fatty goblet. Coffee-like black & brown body. A faint, tan ring of head sizzles & disappears. It's all about jammy raspberries in the nose. In the background is cocoa powder & a subtle, nutty roast(& a bit of rubber). Just a smidgen of heat. Seems a bit simple so far, but at least the oxidation is well hidden. Roasty, charred malt upfront. Faint berries give way to a citrus/rindy bitterness. Finish is cocoa powder, ashy burnt toast, & the beginnings of oxidation. Very light on actual fruit flavor even compared to memories of when it was fresh. Feel is milky & soft, with subtle carbonation & not much noticeable alcohol. Starts off a little plush but ends up being quite thin once it registers. A nice fruit stout without any candy sweetness. Pretty solid. Maybe it'll come back in 22oz bottles with a catchier name & a hefty price tag. Then people will eat it up.

Yes, I am a fan of fruit beers. This one poured a very dark red colour (opaque black when trying to see through), with a deep tanned head. Aromas were of raspberries (of course) with hints of chocolate, and a creamy nose. Oh yeah ! Tasted very good. Raspberries mixed with coffee. Very well-balanced, and very smooth with a mild bitter/sour aftertaste. Thick mouthfeel. This brew is awesome, just heavy on the alcohol - meaning you can’t drink to many of these in a day. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow !

6th November 2008. A standard stout, not too toasty or bitter. Has a definite raspberry taste. It’s decent enough but the two elements don’t really flow in to each other. Not quite joined up.

Bottle at home ... thanks to space coyote ...Deep red ... thin tan head ... rich woody roast malts ... little raspberry nose ... soft smooth roast malts ... little coffee ... fruit but no real raspberry ... saying that its takes its time ... but eventually a little tart raspberry does show up... all round decent though.

Botte from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Good lacing and retention. Strong mocha aroma nicely accented by the raspberry. Taste is not as good as the aroma. The raspberries tend to clash with an average stout. Tart and drinkable, but could stand some improvement.
